History |
CH Cyg a été considérée longtemps comme une variable rouge semi régulière avec un spectre M6-M7 depuis sa découverte par Serguei Gaposchkin en 1952, avec une période de 90 à 100 jours et une amplitude d'une magnitude.
Son outburst commencé en 1963 fait apparaître un fort continuum bleu et des lignes d'émissions HI, He, [FeII], CaII et conduit Deutsch (1964) à la classer comme étoile symbiotique. |

Outbursts |
Plusieurs épisodes d'outbursts ont été observés depuis (1967-70, 1977-86, 1992-95, 1998-99) séparés par des phases quiescentes durant lesquelles le spectre de CH Cyg redevient celui d'une géante rouge. Durant les outbursts, la luminosité augmente fortement dans l'UV et le visible et le systéme devient plus bleu (B-V= 0,6 pour une valeur de 1,4 au minimum, un flickering apparait (0,1 mag à l'échelle de la minute), enfin de fortes raies d'émissions, variables, apparaissent dans le spectre (Isles 1985) .
CH Cyg est ainsi l'une des rares symbiotiques à montrer un flickering à l'échelle de la minute. |
